Greetings from our new Chair

Aug 3, 2010

I am excited to begin my term as your new gsSCENE Chair and I look forward to what the coming season will bring. I am proud to be leading an organization that has accomplished so much in the Myrtle Beach area and I know this is only the beginning of gsSCENE’s impact on the Grand Strand. I am honored to follow in Shannon’s footsteps and I hope that I can serve you as well as she has.

We have some exciting events to look forward to this fall! Our New Member Orientation will be held on August 26 at the Chamber of Commerce. New Member Orientation is a great way to learn more about gsSCENE, what the organization can do for you, and how you can participate. If you are a new member or have not been to an orientation I strongly encourage you to attend. We then have our September Social at Mellow Mushroom on September 16 (Yum!!) and the Halloween Bash on October 28! Is anyone else ready for Fall yet?

In addition to our spectacular socials, we have some great new professional initiatives to look forward to this fall. The applications are in for gsLEAD and our first class will begin in September. I am excited about the experiences our first class will have and the opportunities that will result. The gsLEAD program will provide not only valuable leadership training and mentorship, but will also provide first-hand board experience and facilitate invaluable contacts in the area.

As we begin our new season, I would like to welcome 8 new members to the Steering Committee: Ashley Bourland, Sara Hardee, Annie Obuchowski, Amy Osborne, Chris Sessions, Eileen Soisson, Denny Watson and Madeleine Winstead. I welcome the opportunity to serve with these community leaders. I would also like to thank our returning steering committee members for their continued dedication. Returning Steering Committee Members include Gary Henderson, O’Neil McCoy, Heather Orr, Carla Schuessler, and Callie Wise. With such an experienced and hard working steering committee I know we can expect to have an excellent year!
