gsSCENE helps Habitat for Humanity
Feb 4, 2010
With no gsSCENE community service projects occurring in the month of January, we were happy to lend a helping paintbrush when the Habitat ReStore asked for help with the new “beautification” of the Enterprise Avenue location.
The Habitat ReStore is an outlet that accepts donated goods for resale. This particular ReStore houses a large warehouse that sells donated goods such as TVs, living and dining room furniture/accessories, mirrors, lamps, refrigerators, tubs, sinks, etc..
The cause is brilliant; it accepts donations from the general public and commercial businesses and resells them at a reasonable rate (many of the items appearing to be brand new).
The staff is very helpful and kind. They even offer pick up of donations. The goal is to offer the reuse of usable products (Go GREEN!) while funding Habitat’s many community service projects.
For a community service project popping up at the last minute, we were able to gather a rather large group that almost all but finished a first and second coat of bright white paint.
gsSCENE supplied about 20 volunteers, while Habitat supplied the paint, brushes, rollers, and good spirits. Also, we must not forget our friends at Mellow Mushroom, who donated a much needed pizza break for lunch.
If you would like more information about donating goods or time at the Habitat ReStore feel free to visit their Web site: http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.aspx.
