gsSCENE Hits the Beach for Beach Sweep
Sep 21, 2008
gsSCENE came out in full force on Saturday, September 20, at the Myrtle Beach State Park in support of Beach Sweep sponsored by the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium and the Department of Natural Resources. The Beach & River Sweep is in it’s 20th year and is aimed at cleaning trash off coastal beaches as well as inland rivers. The newest young professionals group on the Grand Strand proved that they are more than just a networking group collecting more than 5 cans of recyclable materials, one dumpster full of trash and 10,000+ cigarette butts. A couple of odd finds included a raft and scuba propulsion equipment.
The forty participants included: Chantele Ackerman, Rob Alban, Kevin Alford, Paige Bird, Shannon Camp, Emily Coke, Dennis DiSabato, Brian Durham, Mike Freeman, Leslie Fryar, Heather Gale, Robyn Graham, Will Gravely, John Griffiths, Scott Ham, Robin Harvey, Hardin Hawes, Blakely Jenkins, Deanne Johnson, Jon Konkel, Julie Kopnicky, Scott Leister, Karli Lessick, Rad Lowery, Jeremy Madden, Kristy McDowell, James Parker, Michelle Ponsler, Tyler Price, Tammy Ramsey, Kim Schemm, Dan Sine, Michael Smith, Wes Standish, Jenifer Sweat, Bob Vizzini, Yoav Wachsman, Kim Waters, John Williams and Daniel Yost.
The next gsSCENE community service event is slated for Saturday, November 15, 2008. gsSCENE members will have the option of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity or Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach. The Habitat for Humanity project will take place in the Village of Dreams subdivision and begin at 8:00 a.m. Participants will get hands on experience in building a home and learn new skills. The Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach project will begin at 9:30 a.m. and includes serving lunch to those in need. Watch www.gsSCENE.com for more details and registration as the date draws near.
